Knitted hat in Bamboo stitch

My first finished knit project of the year is this hat using the bamboo stitch.  I had never heard of this stitch and when I came across this video by Jacq Knits, I had to give it a try.

It is an easy pattern to follow and memorize and of course the video tutorial with additional tips is a bonus!  I cast on the hat in the largest size, in mid-December, and knit on it intermittently, finishing it a few weeks ago.  Tools and supplies:

Yarn:  Lion Brand Wool Ease worsted weight (80% easy-care acrylic and 20% lamb's wool)
Yarn color #:  151 Grey Heather
Circular Needle:  Loops & Threads 16" (40cm) aluminum - US 8 (5mm)
Double pointed needles:  Clover (Takumi) 7" (18cm) bamboo - US 8 (5mm)

Celebrate card

I was inspired by the June 30 Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge and decided to join in and make a red, white and blue card.  I looked through my craft supplies and pulled out products and tools to get creative.

I used three coordinated colors of scrapbook paper by My Mind's Eye.  I used the bold pattern for the background panel and layered it onto white card stock.  I cut the red and lighter blue papers along with a piece of white card stock using the Papertrey Ink rick rack die.  I used a scalloped circle punch to cut the red paper to layer with the candles.  I used white card stock and die cut the candles using the Sizzix candles #2 die.  I colored the candles with colored pencils and added a bit of shimmer with Recollections glitter glue.  The sentiment is an image from a $1 dollar stamp set from Michaels - remember those mini stamp sets, lol!  I used Memento Lady Bug ink to stamp the word, and I was surprised that the ink wasn't dry - I'm sure I've had it for over 10 years!  I cut a piece of enchanted evening card stock, by Papertrey Ink, for the card base and adhered all elements together to finish a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card.

T-Rex Dinosaur puzzle

I recently purchased a few puzzles from Dollar Tree.  One was this 100-piece titled T-Rex Dinosaur, and it caught my attention because of the colors!

I was planning to assemble it over a couple of nights, but I was enjoying the process and with the small size (8 3/4" x 11 1/4"), finished it the same evening.  I covered the top with Elmer's glue (saw this tip in a video) and placed under some heavy items to ensure it dried flat.  Once dried, I adhered it (used Aleene's original tacky glue) to a piece of black chipboard I cut approximately 1/4" bigger than the puzzle.  The puzzle has rounded corners, so I used the corner chomper tool to round the chipboard edges to match.  A simple way to finish and display on an easel.

Ice Cream puzzle

While looking through my crafty area, I found a puzzle that I had assembled and framed many years ago.  I had never known about saving a puzzle and having it on display until I saw one in an office at work.  I was happy to see this because I was always disappointed as a kid when disassembling a puzzle.  So, some years after I saw the framed puzzle, I purchased this ice cream puzzle from the Dollar Tree and was excited knowing I could save and frame it.  I don't remember the title of the puzzle and the brand could be Puzzlebug, but I didn't have any issues with the quality of it.  The puzzle size is approximately 8 3/4 x 11 1/4".  After I assembled the puzzle, I coated the top of it with puzzle glue.  Then I searched for framing options and bought a Timeless Frames 9x12 open back frame from A.C. Moore, a photo mat and foam core board.  After several adjustments to get the pieces to fit, I layered all the components together to create a fun little framed puzzle.  I like the natural wooden frame and think it looks fine unpainted.

Berroco Mystery Blanket Knit Along

Today is the day that I will cast on for the Berroco Mystery Blanket Knit along!  This is a year-long project with one or two patterns being released per month for a total of 20 squares.

There were several bundles of five colors of Berroco Vintage yarn suggested and I chose the Neutral Comfort colorway.

This made it an easy decision to join this KAL because I didn't have to worry about choosing my own colors (although you can) and I would have all the yarn needed to complete the project!

For this month, there are two designs to knit up.  Now off to cast on!

Happy knitting!

Create Every Day cross stitch

My recent crafty creation is the fully finish of my Create Every Day cross stitch piece.    This is a freebie pattern designed by Teresa Kogut and can be found on her website here or also on the Fat Quarter Shop website here.

I stitched this design in 2020, set it aside, and last month finally had an idea on how to finish it.  The finishing piece is a wooden hanging plaque from Michaels that I painted using Folk Art wicker white acrylic paint.  I covered the plaque backing piece with fabric called Spools Allover Blue, from the Sew Little Time collection by Danielle Leone (Wilmington Prints).  I fused a piece of interfacing behind the stitching, backed it with a piece of chipboard and laced it up before gluing to the plaque.  Other details:

Fabric
14 count white Aida

Floss
words - Sullivans 45226 (similar to DMC 825) (Note: lots of stitches-used almost the whole skein)
needle - Sullivans 45090 (similar to DMC 414)
thread details - Sulky petite 12 wt. blendable color 4030

Happy creating!

Sweet Summer cross stitch (Cherry Hill Stitchery)

Well, summer may be winding down but it was time for me to fully finish a cross stitch project I completed last September.  It's the Sweet Summer pattern by Cherry Hill Stitchery

The easy part of the process was picking a wall decor sign from my supply collection to use as the display piece, and painting it white.  However, it took me many days to decide on the materials and layout for this finish.  I auditioned several different fabric options for the backdrop and didn't like any at all so I thought well let me look through my collection of scrapbook paper.  Well that was it!  I found two pieces of coordinating paper by My Mind's Eye that complimented the colors in the stitched piece!  I cut the green polka dot paper for the bottom layer and the coral colored polka dot for the top paper layer.  After those were adhered to the sign base, I was then able to complete a final layout with added embellishments to display this project!  Following are the details of the supplies used.

Cross stitch fabric: 14 ct. Beautiful Beige Aida cloth

Floss:
Sullivans 45339 (substitution for CC Ladybug)
Sullivans 45279 (substitution for Steamed Broccoli)
Sullivans 45002 (substitution for DMC B5200)
DMC 729
DMC 310

Other:
wall decor sign
white acrylic paint
rick rack
My Mind's Eye patterned paper
ribbon

Happy finishing!
